Pokut plateau (north-eastern Turkey)

This plateau is among about a dozen similar places facing Kaçkar mountains. The area (close to Çamlihemsin, Rize) has a distinctly Alpine character (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaçkar_Mountains). We have visited the area this summer (August 2007) and were astonished by the beauty of the countryside.
There is a reason that makes this quite ordinary photograph showing the tiny Pokut plateau special for me: It has recently been selected by a society for their exhibition to be held in Ankara this fall (Start date: October 15th, 2007). The society's purpose is to make the area more widely known... Well, here it is!

Central Anatolia is not regarded a tourist attraction in general. However, there are much to see there! This is from a recent visit. The picture shows signs of ancient earthquaqes. some houses are typical Turkish style and made of wood.
